In an era marked by global challenges such as wars, economic instability, and climate change, psychological distress has become increasingly prevalent. Social isolation and limited physical activities have compounded the difficulties faced by many individuals seeking motivation for personal growth and mental well-being. To address these challenges, groups of artists and scientists have started exploring art as a powerful tool to inspire positive change in society.
The project “ONLY ART WILL SAVE THE WORLD” aims to promote art as a healing and transformative force, capable of connecting individuals’ inner experiences with the external world. Rooted in hermeneutic philosophy, this project upholds the belief that art can reveal profound truths and foster well-being. Heidegger, a key figure in hermeneutic thought, famously stated that “art is the unfolding of truth.” Through engagement with art, individuals can reconnect with their essence, finding harmony and understanding amidst the complexity of modern life.
Dr. Matteo Bertelli, founder of MAGISNAT in Peachtree Corners, has embraced this vision, making it a central part of his initiative. His workspace, adorned with Italian artworks, exemplifies how an aesthetic environment can promote creativity and well-being. Growing up in a family passionate about art, with a father who was an art collector and connoisseur, Bertelli developed a deep belief in the essential role of art for personal growth. His studies have reinforced his conviction that experiencing beauty can contribute to inner harmony and mental clarity.
Hermeneutic philosophy asserts that art is not just a representation of beauty but an embodiment of it, enabling individuals to “recognize the true face of the world” (Gadamer). This interaction with art is an active experience, encouraging reflection and fostering personal growth. Bertelli notes that “the order and perfection present in the works of Renaissance artists like Brunelleschi and Michelangelo reflect a harmony that can resonate within us, promoting meaningful and lasting well-being.”
Drawing inspiration from Italy’s rich artistic heritage and its Mediterranean lifestyle, Bertelli emphasizes how aesthetic balance can have a positive influence on mental and emotional states. The proportions and beauty codified by Renaissance architects and artists continue to inspire, illustrating how external beauty can contribute to inner stability.
Bertelli is now seeking collaborations with art associations to organize free public events that highlight art’s therapeutic potential. The aim is to share a holistic vision of well-being that incorporates art as an essential component for enhancing life quality.
Artists and organizations interested in joining this project and contributing to collective well-being can reach out to Dr. Bertelli at info@magisnat.com for opportunities to collaborate on exhibitions, conferences, and initiatives that celebrate art as a pathway to healing and human connection.
