History Of Microsoft

Microsoft has been established as a computer software company in April, 1975 by two friends Bill Gates & Paul Allen. Bill Gates has born on 28 October 1955 in Seattle, Washington. Bill Gates was admitted to his first school at Lakeside school in Seattle, Washington on 1968 when he was 13 years old. There he met with the another founder of Microsoft Paul Allen. He got his admission in Harvard University in 1973. On the other hand Paul Allen was born on 21 January 1953 in Seattle, Washington. They have become friend in computer enthusiast hall. Paul Allen has got his his admission in State University of Washington after finishing the school. Both of them left study on 1975 for aiming to establish Microsoft. In the same year they started their business journey by developing a basic interpreter for the computer ALTAIR 8800. Microsoft was named by adding two words Micro-Computer & Software. They have acquired the 86-DOS or MS DOS and started making software for IBM and it’s competitor like COMPAC. They have prepared their first graphical user interface based operating system Windows 1.0 in 1985 which competes with Macintosh Software System of Apple. But both Microsoft & Apple was inspired by the GUI of Xerox. Although the operating system of Apple was only used on the computer of Apple. But the operating system of Microsoft was usable to all computers. Any company can use the operating system of Microsoft by purchasing the license. Although there were a lot of bugs and internal issue of Windows 1.0, 2.0 & 3.0 but Windows 95 was the game changer. On that time Microsoft was able to built operating system for any companies’ computers. They have added Start button & the browser Internet Explorer to the operating system which played a wide range of role in the field of internet. Besides windows Microsoft started going ahead with office applications and became the most influential tech company in the world. Bill Gates left the position of CEO of Microsoft on 2000.  Then since 2014 the company grew a lot with the hand of Steve Ballmer. Bing, Azure, XBOX, Microsoft Surface, Windows Phone like products added to the line up of Microsoft in the leadership of Steve Ballmer. Although the company was growing through the leadership of Steve Ballmer but it started getting positive affirmation from the market with the leadership of Satya Nadella. He focused on Microsoft Azure & Windows Server products line up and moving forward the company to Cloud Computing.

In 2020 the company generates 22.3 billion USD revenue from Microsoft Windows which is 16% of total revenue of the company. There are a little number of companies who don’t use the products of Microsoft specially their Office 365. Almost every company in the world use Microsoft 365 and in USA there are more than 700000 companies use it. At present there are 240 Million active users of it. The products of Microsoft 365 like word, excel & power point are contesting with the products of G Suite by Google. In the same way One Drive is the competitor of Google Drive, Drop Box & iCloud. In addition Microsoft Team is a business communication application which is able to observe the activities of employee & connect 1000 people at a time. On the other hand Zoom, Google Meet & Slack like companies are providing conference call like Microsoft Team. According to an information of Statista Microsoft Team is growing every moments by acquiring 145 Million active users & 15% market share since April 2021. In the market of search engine Microsoft Bing is a  prominent product. Although Google is in 1st position by holding 88% of market share but it is in a stable position with 5.56% market share. Microsoft is providing cloud computing & services with the products of Windows Server in a short time. At present Microsoft is competing with AWS. Microsoft Azure is trying to take over a lion share of Cloud Computing Market. Although AWS is in leading position in this market having 32% share but Microsoft Azure already have 20% share. The global market of video game generated $175.8 Billion in 2021 and it is predicted that it will increase to $200 Billion within 2023. On the other hand Microsoft XBOX game console has a market share about 40% till June 2021 and the revenue is $3.6 Billion which competes with Play Station console by Sony. The company has sold more than 84 Million XBOX gaming console. They are acquiring several gaming studio for enriching their gaming library. It has acquired Minecraft for $2.5 Billion. Also they have acquired ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion and added FORZA, HALO, FABLE like more than 300 games to their portfolio.

Besides all above these the company is expanding their business every moments by acquiring different companies. Among these one of the biggest acquisitions of the company is the professional social media platform LinkedIn Corporation. This the the biggest network for professionals having almost 756 Million registered members in more than 200 countries in the world. The platform has the features of Career Development Opportunities, Market Insights, Shared Experience & Job searches. Also there are some extra features for premium members. Skype Technologies SARL was established for video communication which was sold to Microsoft in 2011 for $8.5 Billion. The company also acquired the platform of software, application & algorithm development know as GitHub for $7.5 Billion in 2018. The platform has more than 56 Million developers. More than 60 Million new repositories was created in this platform from October 2019 to September 2020. Since today Microsoft has acquired more than 200 companies like Software Industry, Health Industry, Telecommunication, API Management, Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, 5G Networking, Video Games which is operated as subsidiary of this company. Also hundreds of companies are operated as subsidiary under these companies which generates 3rd layer revenue for Microsoft. It has also bought 1.6% stake in Facebook for $240 Million. According to Forbes Microsoft has invested around $1 Billion to the ride sharing platform Uber. It has also investment on AT&T, BestBuy, Audible & Grab like companies. It is also going to enter the market of automobile industry by partnership with Ericsson. By which it will establish integrated vehicle system with the help of Microsoft Azure. Microsoft is expanding their business almost every sectors by their technology in every moments which was started by revolutionize to personal computing.
