WordPress is one of the most popular cms(content management system) in the world. The popularity of WordPress is increasing day by day. WordPress was started with a few number of features on 2003. Then the users of WordPress was countable by the toe. It was used for creating blog website. But now a days there are thousands of features available in WordPress. Now WordPress is using for creating not only blog website but also corporate website, news portal, e-commerce and more. It is updating day by day. About 75 million website are using WordPress now.
The security issue comes to the picture when WordPress website comes online. For these wide range of usage there are also a fear of attack. So it is necessary to ensure the security issue of WordPress. Today I will discuss about one of the most vulnerable issues of WordPress. I will show you how to enable reCAPTCHA on WordPress website. It will save your website from brute-force attacks against user accounts and spam comments.
reCAPTCHA
reCAPTCHA is a free anti-spam service by Google. It helps to protect your website from spam and abuse. At the same time it ensures real people can pass through your website. Currently google offers three version of reCAPTCHA.
- v2 Checkbox reCAPTCHA: Prompts users to check a box to prove they’re human.
- v2 Invisible reCAPTCHA: Uses advanced technology to detect real users without requiring any input.
- v3 reCAPTCHA: Uses a behind-the-scenes scoring system to detect abusive traffic, and lets you decide the minimum passing score.
How To Enable reCAPTCHA On WordPress Website?
There are many ways for enabling reCAPTCHA on WordPress website. Today I will show you the easiest way for enabling reCAPTCHA on your WordPress website. It will add extra verification system to your login, registration, forgot password, new password, comments page. So that your website becomes protected from brute-force attack and spam comments. Just follow the steps below.
#1 Step
First you have to download, install and active a plugins named Simple Google reCAPTCHA.
#2 Step
After activating navigate to Settings>Google reCAPTCHA from your WordPress dashboard. It will ask for Site Key & Secret Key.
#3 Step
For generating your Site Key & Secret Key visit the Google reCAPTCHA page. Then click on Admin Console.
#4 Step
If you are not logged in then you have to log in through your Google account. Then it will ask for a label. In my case I have written “my test website”. Then select reCAPTCHA type. I have chosen v2. Then add your domain. In my case I have put my domain name “moonflix.xyz”. The just hit the submit button.
#5 Step
Then you will get your Site Key & Secret Key. Just copy and paste the Site Key & Secret Key to the WordPress plugins Google reCAPTCHA settings page.
#6 Step
This is the last step. After pasting the Site Key & Secret Key just hit the Save Changes button. That’s all done. You will see a CAPTCHA verification on your website login. registration, reset password and comment page.
